3-Day Northern Kayaking Adventure in Cambodia
Embark on an unforgettable expedition through Cambodia’s wild northern landscapes, where emerald jungles meet winding rivers and timeless villages.
Day 1: River Exploration & Waterfall Discovery
After a scenic 1.5-hour car ride north, arrive at a riverside village to board your upstream-bound boat. Along the way, discover deep water pools and scattered islands along this rocky river stretch.
At the Mekong waterfall, observe how its natural barrier creates a unique ecosystem, attracting diverse fish species downstream. Following this, venture on foot to see the waterfall up close while learning about nomadic communities’ traditional plant-based remedies.
Later in the day, cruise to Hang Khone (part of the 4,000 Islands), pausing at the historic French Ferry port for lunch (note: access may vary). As evening falls, settle into Preah Rumkel village, choosing between a cultural homestay or immersive island camping.
Day 2: Kayaking Through Flooded Forests
Begin your morning paddling through Ramsar-listed wetlands from O’Svay, where abundant birdlife thrives in this serene ecosystem. As you navigate further, marvel at towering trees rising from the water, their roots dramatically sculpted by Mekong currents.
Continuing onward, glide past seasonally-submerged islands before reaching the remote village of Voeun Sien. Here, interact with villagers during a walking tour, then unwind with a beachside picnic lunch.
After kayaking to Koh Key in the afternoon, transfer by boat to Stung Treng for hotel check-in. With free time in the evening, wander through the city’s charming streets as dusk settles.
Day 3: Cycling & Dolphin Spotting
Start your final day with an exhilarating 28-km bike ride along Mekong-side gravel trails, soaking in panoramic riverside views. Midway, detour 6 km further to witness the fascinating petrified Ko Ky Tmor tree, transformed by decades underwater.
Following an energizing picnic lunch at Koh Preah, experience the highlight of your trip – kayaking at Tbong Kla Dolphin Pool where Irrawaddy dolphins frequently surface! Finally, wrap up your adventure at Tbong Kla before your comfortable return transfer to Kratie.
